Kath Hughes Demos Participatory XR Prototype at Immersive Acts Symposium: Biometric Bodies Breathe
On Friday 13th March 2026, Dr. Kath Hughes demoed a participatory XR prototype at the Immersive Acts: Disrupting the Frame by Otherwise Narratives symposium at Royal College of Art London, as part of a thematic research track titled Immersive Innovation Design: Bodies, Sensors, and New Narratives. The early-stage game prototype demo of ‘Biometric Bodies Breathe’, an ongoing collaborative research project between Kath Hughes and Daniel Bacchus, invited participants to ‘play’ within an immersive, speculative, embodied concept design. The ‘Biometric Bodies Breathe’ project has recently been awarded funding (Supported by XR Network+, using funding from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, EPSRC, and UK Research and Innovation, UKRI) to explore how the intersections of biometric data, immersive XR technologies, neuropsychology, the visual, and sonic arts, could advance understanding around how biometric data can shape XR participatory interaction design; towards developing innovative XR prototypes that affect heart-rate synchrony, engage embodied feedback-loops and relationality in real-time.
