Undergraduate Research Journal 2023: Visual Encounters

Visual Encounters is a student-produced online journal that showcases the annual UWE Undergraduate Research Symposium proceedings. The first issue of Visual Encounters (June, 2023) was designed, produced and edited by Anna Lavender (BA [hons] Fine Art) and Yi Zhen Leong (BA [hons] Graphic Design), supported by UWE graduate Amy Baker (BA [hons] Animation). This issue is organised into four themes, echoing the four panels at the symposium: Trauma, Histories and Representation (articles by Phoebe Randall, Kiri Horikiri-White and Emese Gyorfi); Making Bodies, Making Gender (articles by Bella Rogers, Harry Judge, Jess Rattray and Yi Zhen Leong); Ways of Making and Narrating (articles by Anna Lavender, Dee Jackson and Zoe Robertson-Tingle); and Care and Social Change (essays by Rhian Lister and Mihone Forsyth).

‘Through thought-provoking analyses and profound personal reflections, student contributors and editors have shaped a journal that embodies the spirit of academic curiosity, critical inquiry, and creative exploration.’ – Anna Lavender, Journal Editor.
